TIF Charity

WELCOME

Hello, I'm Dennis, an amateur investor with a great charitable cause.

My goal is to help my favorite cause every year while learning and mastering investing fundamentals.

What I do

Being in high school, I have modest goals:

Investment Approach

My goal is to generate approximately 10% return on annual investment and distribute it to my charity cause twice or three times a year. In case my investment strategy is not successful, I pledge to raise capital anyway and donate to charity.

Charity

There are a few causes that I support, including:
- Natural disaster relief

- Medical research and finding cures

- Poverty irradication

- Disadvantaged art

- Education

PHILOSOPHY

- No single investment should be more than 20% of portfolio

- Stocks bought should be somewhat undervalued - Stock should have strong fundamentals

- Speculation - is NOT an objective

- Stocks picked should be in socially responsive and greater good areas

- Use of options is permitted but mostly for defensive hedging

Charity selected is SAVE ONE LIFE. Save One Life was founded in 2000 by Laureen A. Kelley, author, president of LA Kelley Communications and mother of a son with hemophilia. In 1996 Laurie began visiting developing countries to train leaders to start national hemophilia foundations and to bring factor donations. Two incidents made her think it was possible to give direct financial aid to people with hemophilia in developing countries. I supported Mike Adelman

Michael J. Fox Foundation - 9/2019

The Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF) exists for one reason: to accelerate the next generation of Parkinson’s disease (PD) treatments. In practice, that means identifying and funding projects most vital to patients spearheading solutions around seemingly intractable field-wide challenges coordinating and streamlining the efforts of multiple, often disparate, teams and doing whatever it takes to drive faster knowledge turns for the benefit of every life touched by PD.

VALLEY HOSPITAL SYSTEM - 5/2020

COVID-19 Response Efforts Fund has been established at The Valley Hospital Foundation. My contribution will go directly to assisting in the massive efforts at the hospital to deal with this crisis, including the purchase of N95 masks, face shields or goggles, isolation gowns, nitrile gloves and other equipment and supplies essential to COVID-19 patient care.

MY blog

WHAT I ACTUALLY DO ON THIS PROJECT

1/24 - SMCI had very good growth potential and highlighted that in the results. I was able to make a 10% return in just under a week.

12/23 - NVDA was able to show a great return (AGAIN) and was a unique addition to my portfolio.

11/23 - As end of year investing activity accelerates (tax harvesting) the financial and brokerage companies look more interesting

9/23 - Large independent power producers (NRG) are streamligning ahead of earnings season. Interesting to see their retail numbers.

7/23 - Insurance companies and asset management companies are interesting for cash flows - Aon specifically

6/23 - TSLA paid off +185% appreciation since purchase - cash out

5/23 - Cash is king? Money market funds earn almost 6% now? Keep some in cash? SPAXX

4/23 - utilities are down across the board 10-20%, but is recovery near? Also great dividends - 4-7% - nice! Still like Dominion and Williams

4/23 - China stocks are not going anywhere. Is Asian recession real? No bounce on latest economic and political events? Very strange - stay away for now.

2/23 - https://www.whitehouse.gov/cleanenergy/inflation-reduction-act-guidebook/

2/23 - Fascinating company with multitude of lines. Great pickup in past year. More to come?

1/23 - is TSLA undervalued. Believe so, bought at 108. Let's see if EM will beat 1.4M production in 2023

12/22 - Year end investment result +56%. Nice Job! Nice distributions to favorite charaties AGAIN! And yes, natural gas is socially responsible and clean.

10/22 - China will recover. That is a monster economy. Question is when?

6/22 - LNG is great

12/21 - Year end investment result +13.56%. Nice Job! Nice distributions to favorite charaties

12/20 - CSCO and PCG - double digit returns. FE and D have not moved in almost 3 months. Bitcoin is going crazy, look at GBTC and MGTI?

09/20 - Wonder if AMZN, FB, GOOG, NFLX wil split soon like TSLA and AAPL???

09/10/20 - Positions snapshot

09/20 - Now that I am in High School, thinking about increasing charity donations. Will make decision by end of this year.

08/20/20 - Over the past few weeks accumulated positions in Utilities (FE and PCG - both were distressed but getting their affairs in order now) and IT (INTC and CSCO - undervalued in my opinion with good fundamentals)

05/05/20 - THIRD DISTRIBUTION - The Valley Hospital Foundation - COVID-19 Response Efforts

03/28/20 - Only position iN is D

03/23/20 - What a week! Dow at 18.5 from 27.... wow

12/6/19 - Market update - NVDA - Up 42%, D - up 5%

9/20/19 - Second DISTRIBUTION - This time to MJF Foundation!!!!! Very proud!

8/22/19 - Market seems overheated. Negative news abundant. Sold CELG (+40%) and NVIDIA (+17%). Only Dominion left in portfolio.

7/29/19 - PURCHASED dOMINION (d) STOCK - BELIEVE IN CLEAN AND RENEWABLE ENERGY AND GREAT DIVIDEND.

7/5/19 - First Donation from investment profits to save one life

4/16/19 - What a day - Portfolio up ~6%

2/15/19 - I believe in 5G!

- Bought QCOM - huge future in 5G networks

1/31/19 - Progress

- CELG up 22%, NVDA down 5%, DWDP down 2%

1/07/19 - NVDA

- Bought NVDA - believe in graphics, gaming, bitcoin

1/03/19 - CELG

- Market is Down 650 point, but CELG is up 22%. Merger news here: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/factbox-bristol-myers-74-billion-224543738.html

12/20/18 - DWDP

- Jim Cramer recommended DWDP last night as undervalued

12/14/18 - First Investments

- 2 shares of DWDP and 2 shares of CELG

- Reason for Dow (agriculture, materials science, and specialty products businesses worldwide): undervalued, decrease in profit bottomed out, split will release more value, dividend

- Reason for CELG (biopharmaceutical company finding cures for many awful deceases): undervalued, earnings increase, best in class.

12/14/18 - Account set - Check

Finally my account is up and running. I can start picking up stocks now. Very excited!
